Coronavirus disease (COVID-19)
It is an infectious disease that is caused by a newly discovered virus that belongs to the family Coronaviridae.
People who are infected with the COVID-19 virus will experience cough, fever, tiredness, difficulty in breathing (severe cases) and may recover without any special treatment. Majority of people infected with the coronavirus will only have relatively mild symptoms and many will be completely asymptomatic.
People with medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, cancer, HIV and other underlying diseases are more vulnerable to develop serious illness. Those who recently have undergone any surgeries are also susceptible to get infected.
STEPS TO PROTECT YOURSELF
The best way to prevent and slow down virus transmission is to avoid being exposed to this virus. You need to understand first how the virus spreads. virus is spread mainly from person-to-person, between people who are in close contact with one another (about 6 feet distance).
It is spread through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes. when an infected person coughs or sneezes. It can also spread if an infected person hand touches a door handle, switch or any other surfaces. Influenza and cold viruses are also spread this way.
Few ways to protect yourself or people living close to you from infection is by washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place. Immediately wash your hands after you cough, sneeze or blow your nose. It is important that you do not touch your face and cover your mouth with a handkerchief when you sneeze or cough
At present, there are no vaccines or treatments for COVID-19. Nevertheless, there are many ongoing clinical trials evaluating potential treatment methods.
